Join our textile artists for a fun day of Indigo Shibori dyeing on the patio of the Shepard Garden & Arts Center.

This year we will be offering 2 different Indigo Dyeing experiences.

Itajime Shibori with LuAnne Hansen

Date: 6/20/26: Select your starting time below

Itajime Shibori utilizes folding and clamping of textiles to create geometric patterns. In this workshop you will select a technique and learn how to create it on a bandana or dish towel. Once ready, you will be able to dip your piece in the Indigo vats to create your pattern with color.

Time: Approx 60-90 Minutes

Materials Included:

  • Fabric Selection to Chose from (Bandanas, Fat Quarters, Dish Towels, and a limited number of items that can be substituted for an uncharge (scarves, silk pieces, etc).

  • Shibori Tools

  • Access and Instruction at the Indigo Vat

Items to bring:

  • Rubber gloves for dyeing

Introduction to hand sewn Shibori! with Grey Lux

Date: 6/20/26: Select your starting time below

Learn how to create shibori accents on a decorative pillow using the Mokume Shibori technique. Mokume (Wood Grain) Shibori is created by hand stitching multiple lines of parallel running stitches, resulting in broken lines of resist marks. Using a pillow blank, we will plan, draw, and sew unique patterns using lines and circles. Once the sewing is completed, you will head over to the dye studio to dip your piece in Indigo.

Time: Approx 120 Minutes

Materials Included:

  • 14 × 14 Cotton Pillow Square

  • Shibori Threads and needles

  • Access and Instruction at the Indigo Vat

Items to bring

  • Helpful sewing tools, but not necessary: Scissors, fabric table, small ruler, rubber gloves for dyeing
