Joan McMurray
Joan McMurray is an award winning Northern California based visual artist.
In addition to her mastery of pastels and oil painting, she is known for her distinctive work in silk painting, creating wearable art utilizing dyeing techniques such as Arashi Shibori Resist Dyeing.
Her art is a fusion of textile craftsmanship and painterly expression, making it unique in the contemporary art world.
Her silk paintings are a hallmark of her style, blending textile art with fine art techniques which have been featured in Sac Open Studios.
She is a member of Northern California Arts, the Sacramento Fine Arts Center, and she holds a board seat as the current Secretary for the Sacramento Collective for the Textile Arts.

Creating Wearable Art Silk Scarves
An Introduction to Painting on Silk Arashi Shibori Free Form & Gutta Resist Dyeing
Only 5 Seats available!
Create 3 beautiful wearable art silk scarves utilizing 2 different techniques during this 2 Day, 8 hour workshop. This workshop is limited to 5 students and takes place at Joan's Fair Oaks Studio. No experience is necessary. This workshop is appropriate for beginning through experienced painters
Day 1: You will create 2 silk scarves using silk painting techniques including pole wrapped Arashi Shibori, and a Free Form
Day 2: You will create 1 silk scarf drawn with a Water Based Resist Technique
Materials:
All materials will be provided, including 3 silk scarves, French dyes and Gutta Resist.
There will be a 1 hour lunch break each day so pls bring lunch/ snacks
